Ames Plantation Heritage Festival
The Ames Plantation, in cooperation with The University of Tennessee, hosts an Annual Heritage Festival in October which celebrates the area's cultural heritage. The Festival presents an entertaining and educational approach to the area's rich heritage. The diverse, family oriented, program offers something for all ages and interests. Over 100 folk artists, demonstrators, and musicians provide entertainment and education unlike any other in the area. Demonstrations include fireplace cooking, blacksmithing, cotton picking, kettle laundry, quilting, weaving, tatting, soap making, chair bottoming, basket weaving, traditional pottery and much more. Civil War cavalry and artillery units provide a glimpse into that troubled time in our history with living history encampments and live fire artillery demonstrations. Pick your own turnip greens for free from the heirloom garden as long as they last. For your fall decorating needs, a variety of decorative corn will be available for purchase. Annual three day event held on the first week-end of

Battleground Memorial Lantern Walk
Held in March and sponsored by
the Parkers Crossroads Battlefield
Association. Starting
at dusk, guides will lead groups on
lantern lighted walks through the
battlefield with volunteers portraying
soldiers and civilians sharing stories
taken from the letters and diaries of
the period. The 40 minute walk will
start at tour stop 7 which is located
south of I-40. Turn east onto Federal
Lane traveling approximately 1/4 mile to
the battlefield parking area.

Savannah Bluegrass Festival
Held annually the 1st weekend in July. Founder is Wayne Jerrolds, a former Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, champion fiddler, song writer, inventor of the "fiddlelin" ( fiddle on one side, mandolin on the other). Held at the Wayne Jerrrolds Riverpark. Wednesday night is Youth Gospel Fest, Thursday night is Rocking on the River, Friday and Saturday nights are Bluegrass. Scotts Hill Appreciation Days

Hockaday Broomcorn Festival
The Hockaday family of Selmer has been growing broomcorn since the early 1990s. These corn plants do not develop an ear, but instead develop straw-like stalk that grows from the top. This straw is dried, cultivated, and used to create incredible handmade brooms by the Hockaday family. For years each September, the Hockaday family celebrated the broom corn with an annual Broomcorn Festival. Starting in September 2006, this popular festival is being expanded to Selmer in September and will be held at the Selmer City South Park. Over forty folk artists will make and sell their wares along with live music, food, and entertainment for the whole family. For more information, call (731) 645-6360.
