Big Hill Pond State Park - McNairy County

On State Hwy. 57, located on the junction of the Tuscumbia and Hatchie State Scenic Rivers. The 4,218-acre park features the Travis McNatt Fishing Lake, a cypress-lined pond created during levy construction for the Memphis-Charleston Railroad line, a boardwalk trail leading into a wetlands area, campsites, backpacking trails, picnic sites and a visitors center.
Chickasaw State Park - Chester County

On U.S. Hwy. 100, this 14,400-acre park and forest was once part of a vast area belonging to the Chickasaw Nation prior to the Jackson Purchase of 1818. Featuring a Bear Trace Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Numerous miles of fire roads and trails wind through the scenic timberlands which embraces Lake Placid. The park offers 12 vacation cottages, 110 camping sites, a completely equipped lodge for up to 40 persons, hiking trail, tennis courts, basketball courts, archery range, badminton court, horseshoe pits, lighted ball field, playground, volleyball court and horseback riding in the summer. Open daily, lodge is open April through October.
Natchez Trace State Park - Henderson County

On I-40. Named for the western alternative route of the famous Nashville-to-Natchez, Miss. trail of the 18th and 19th centuries. The park includes Pin Oak and Cub Lake units which encompass 14,073-acres within the 48,000-acre Natchez Trace State Forest, Tennessees largest state forest. Along with the scenic woodlands, the park offers four lakes, 45 miles of hiking trails, a wrangler camp, inn, restaurant, and cabins.

On State Hwy. 57 at Pickwick Dam. This 1,392-acre park on the shores of Pickwick Reservoir offers a full-service marina, three public boat ramps, a 119-room inn and restaurant with conference and meeting facilities, 10 cabins, and an 18-hole championship golf course.
Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park - Madison County

Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Area consists of at least 15 earthen mounds, a geometric enclosure and habitation areas that encompass over 1,100 acres. It is the largest Middle Woodland period mound complex in the Southeast. Facilities include a museum designed to replicate a mound with displays, videos and interpretive programs. Picnic shelters, playground, six miles of hiking trails with a boardwalk along the Forked Deer River and a 32-person group camp for overnight stay. Park grounds open until dusk daily. Museum hours are: Mon.-Sat. 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sun. 1-5 p.m.

Located only four miles south of Brownsville on U. S. Hwy. 76 are 11,556-acres of the Hatchie Scenic River that comprise the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge. It offers nature at its best with nine natural oxbow lakes, as well as a man-made lake for fishing, more than 200 species of birds, about 50 mammals and a myriad of reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.

Established in 1984 to preserve part of Jacksons natural river bottom habitat, Cypress Grove consists of 165 acres of Cypress forest and features trails, more than two miles of elevated boardwalk, a pond and a lake, home to various mammals, frogs, fish, turtles and more than 175 species of birds. The site also features the Aerie Trail Raptor Center, a haven for birds of prey that have been injured and cannot survive on their own in the wild. Restrooms and picnic facilities. Free admission. Open daily Nov.-March 8 a.m.-5 p.m., April-Oct. 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Group reservations accepted.

Open year round. Joy-O R. V. Park is located 11 miles west of Jackson on I-40 and Hwy. 138 Exit 68, go south on Hwy. 138 for 100 yards and turn left at the Joy-O Park Entrance Sign. If you are heading Hwy. 70 West turn right and go 3/4 mile and turn right at the entrance sign. The park has 20 pull-thru sites with electric, water and sewage; 10 back in spaces with electric and water; and 10 tent sites. Bath house and laundry open all night. Swimming pool open May 31st until Labor Day. All sites have shade and grass patios. Also available is an open field for sports, a meeting room for gatherings and telephone hookups at some sites. Located close to the border of Mississippi and Alabama within the proximity of Pickwick Dam, this course opened in May of 1973 and is a favorite of the locals as well as destination golfers. Golf Digest has awarded this facility "Three Stars" in the Places to Play category. Hole #2, a tight dogleg right Par 4, 396 yards, is the Signature Hole with out of bounds protecting the entire right side of the fairway. Every hole is tree-lined, out of bounds guards eleven holes and water is found on eight holes. There are a total of twenty-one bunkers found throughout the course. Driving Range, Practice Green, On Site Lodging, Snack Bar, Club Rental. Lessons Available. Tee times required 7 days a week. Open 7 days a week, closed on Christmas Day.
